Tide of Empires
★★★★☆ 4.3
Tide of Empires is a compact 4X that somehow fits an entire empire on a phone screen without feeling cramped. You explore, expand, and manage a growing map turn by turn, with no clock breathing down your neck. It's a thinker's game, and it knows it.
What sold me was the honest offline design. There's no energy timer, no push to check back in. You can plan a hundred-turn game across a week of commutes and nothing decays while you're away. The interface takes a session to learn but clicks fast.
It won't win awards for flashy visuals — the art is functional more than beautiful. But if you like weighing decisions and watching a plan slowly pay off, it's a keeper.
What we liked
- No energy timers or pressure
- Deep turn-based decisions
- Great for long, spread-out sessions
