Five offline RPGs worth your storage space

Five offline RPGs worth your storage space

Offline RPGs are a special breed. They need to hold your attention for hours without a live server, which means everything from the story to the save system has to be solid on its own.

Emberhold Saga tops my list right now, mostly because of how much its story surprised me. But the genre is deeper than one game, and the trick is finding ones that don't secretly gate content behind connectivity.

When I test an RPG for offline reliability, I toggle airplane mode mid-battle and mid-cutscene. If the game panics, that's a red flag. The good ones don't even notice.

Battery life matters more than people admit here too. A gorgeous RPG that drains your phone in an hour isn't much use on a long flight. I now check power draw as part of every review.

My advice for picking one: prioritise a game with a clean save-anywhere system over one with the flashiest graphics. You'll appreciate it the first time your stop comes up mid-dungeon.
